UFCW Local 1189 members at Kowalski’s Central facility in Shoreview voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying a new three-year agreement on May 8. The agreement contains a number of improvements for top of scale/over scale wages, protection for parents during emergency weather situations, improvements to the holiday pay language, more flexible vacation scheduling and improvements to on-call pay.
Local 1189 currently has two open positions on its Southern Division executive board. Scholarships ranging from up to $1200 for part time and up to $2500 for full time are given each year to students enrolled in community or technical college, along with undergraduate and graduate programs. Students are eligible for consideration for up to two years for a community or technical college program, up to four years of undergraduate work at a university (including two years in a community or technical college), and up to two years of graduate work. A tentative agreement was reached with Kowalski's for UFCW Local 1189 members working at the Central Bakery on May 1, 2019. A ratification vote has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 8 from 10 a.m.
Union members working at stores operated by St. Paul area grocers overwhelmingly ratified new three year agreements. Bargining committee members counted votes back at the UFCW 1189 Union Hall in South St. Paul shortly after the close of the voting period (7pm today, April 30, 2019).
